Carter Mountain’s “Happy Birthday America”

Celebrate the Fourth of July from one of Charlottesville’s most scenic overlooks at Carter Mountain Orchard’s Happy Birthday America event. This annual celebration gives guests an evening of mountain views, live music, local food, and a memorable place to enjoy the C’ville Spectacular fireworks show. It’s a must-attend for America’s 250th birthday!
Guests can typically look forward to live music, food trucks, orchard treats, and seasonal Carter Mountain favorites before the fireworks begin. Depending on the year, offerings may include ice cream, apple cider donuts, fresh-picked fruit, wine, hard cider, and other refreshments available on-site. Outside food and beverages, pets, and smoking may be restricted during special events.
Tickets are required, and rules may vary from year to year, so make sure to check Carter Mountain Orchard’s official calendar as you make your Independence Day plans.
Independence Day at James Monroe’s Highland

For a historic and relaxed Fourth of July outing, visit James Monroe’s Highland, the Charlottesville home of the fifth president and a Revolutionary War veteran. For Highland’s annual July 4 Celebration, guests can typically expect a day of free live music, patriotic interpretive activities, and discounted general admission. Visitors are also welcome to bring picnic lunches, making it an easygoing option for families, history lovers, and anyone looking for a quieter daytime celebration.
Event details can change from year to year. Before visiting, check Highland’s event page for current hours, ticket details, and any added programming.

Fourth of July at Monticello

No Independence Day in Charlottesville would be complete without considering a visit to Monticello! Each year, Thomas Jefferson’s mountaintop home hosts one of the country’s most meaningful Fourth of July traditions, an Independence Day celebration and naturalization ceremony welcoming new American citizens. This ceremony has taken place for more than 60 years, turning the West Lawn into an outdoor courtroom for the Oath of Citizenship.
For 2026, Monticello’s event is part of America’s 250th anniversary and includes the naturalization ceremony, music, concessions, children’s activities, and community partner programming. The event is free, but reservations are required. Guests should also review parking, shuttle, security, bag, and weather information before attending.
Because this is one of Charlottesville’s most popular Independence Day events, plan ahead and check Monticello’s official event page before you go. House tours may be available separately, but they require their own tickets and should be reserved in advance when possible.
Family Fun at Boar’s Head Resort

Looking for an all-in-one Fourth of July outing? Boar’s Head Resort often hosts an Independence Day Celebration as part of its summer event lineup, with live music, food, drinks, family-friendly fun, and fireworks over the resort grounds. Guests need advance tickets for entry, while hotel guests receive complimentary access. Boar’s Head works well if you want a polished resort setting where you can enjoy dinner, music, lawn activities, and fireworks without hopping between multiple locations.
Boar’s Head does not allow outside food, outside beverages, or coolers during the event. Since schedules, ticket options, and food vendors can change each year, review the current event page before making plans.
Fireworks at King Family Vineyards

For a celebration just outside Charlottesville, keep an eye on the Crozet Independence Day Celebration. King Family Vineyards has hosted a 4th of July event on its polo field in recent years, with past festivities including live music, local food trucks, wine, beer, lawn seating, and fireworks. This can be a beautiful option for anyone who wants to pair a Crozet-area outing with mountain views, community energy, and evening fireworks.
Bring blankets or lawn chairs if allowed, and always review the current event rules for parking, outside food, alcohol, coolers, pets, and seating before you go. Since schedules, ticket options, and food vendors can change each year, review the current event page before making plans.
Free Public Fireworks Viewing Spots
Not every great fireworks experience comes with a ticket price. The C’ville Spectacular fireworks show gives residents and visitors several public viewing options across Central Virginia. Local event listings currently place the display at 9 PM, but visibility, parking, and access can vary by location.
